Christmas at Grandma's 2009

We took a visit over the Columbia River, Willamette River and through the forests to Grandma's house.  We visited with Paul's parents and my mom.  We spent one day with each set of family.  Paul's mom, Gail, always sets an elegant table.  I admire her attention to detail and the care she takes to the little things.

Debbie and Darin

Paul's brother, Jim and his friend from Minnesota, Cindy.  We met Cindy for the first time and I hope we didn't scare her too much.

This was my view while I ate my dinner.  Hey Cal, Paul!

This is the "kid" table.  We have mostly girls for kids.  With my four girls, 2 sitting here, and Paul's brother's daughters, one of which is sitting at table, and then Paul's sister's 2 girls, both are sitting here, this is a family with girl power!

I thought Cal was cute with his snappy little knife he's cutting tape with as he opens his packages.

"You'll shoot your eye out!"
How many times have you watched that one?  I have to say, I haven't seen it yet this season.  My loss, I love A Christmas Story.
I have to mention here, Cal always wanted a gun for Christmas as a little boy.  A few years in the Army helped fulfill one dream, I guess.

Babies were the highlight of the family fun and celebrating.  Aurora and Gunnar spent time getting to know each other.  Aurora was giving Gunnar kisses and I couldn't capture the moment with the delay on my camera as I snapped the pictures.  I am a poor photographer and that doesn't help.

Paul's brother, Jim, holding Gunnar.

Aurora and Paul were great friends.  She loved feeding him her oranges.  I thing the resemblence her grandpa has to Paul really helped her feel kinship with an uncle she sees only once a year.

Lots of jumping on Uncle Paul.

More hugs and jumping.

Jahna, Aurora's mommy and Paul's niece.
Jahna lives in a beautiful Minnesota town on Lake Superior.  She suprised her grandparents and flew out on this visit.  We loved seeing her and her sister.  The grandparents had no idea until they walked in the door.  It was a wonderful surprise for everyone.

Hannah had nail polish and Aurora is a true girly girl.

Lots of attention to the nails.

The teen girls had so much fun and loved visiting each other.  The girls don't visit each other much and spend lots of time together when we have visits in Portland.

I loved this picture and the following because it shows how much these teen girls loved their gifts of make-up.  The were absorbed in discoverying their new gifts and spending fun time together.

Well, more to come later.

Merry Christmas.

This was Amy and Keoki's first Christmas together.
